Voice Thread Reflection

Here is my voice thread reflection!!

Twitter Reflection

When I first started this class I had never joined Twitter or had any plans to.  I thought it would just be another time consuming part of social media.  I also never saw it as having any value to education.  I admit I was WRONG!  I am following so many amazing teachers and have already learned a lot from them.  I participated into 2 chats for class: #edchat and #552peru.  I felt #edchat to be overwhelming and I couldn’t keep up with reading and responding to others posts, but our class chat flowed a lot smoother and we shared some great TED Videos and online resources with each other. A chat that I participated on my own was #kinderchat.  There are so many smart kindergarten teachers out there that have amazing resources.  I am really learning a lot from @mattBgomez.  He is always posting a free app of the day and has even created a space for a lot of great kindergarten videos on Symbaloo under Kinderchat! Click here to view it. I have shared this resource with my fellow kinder teachers and we appreciate the knowledge. I will continue to use Twitter personally and professionally after this class because I see the value in connecting with other teachers around the world.  I even linked up with another kindergarten teacher from the other Peru Cohort and we have tweeted and now follow each other on Pinterest to share ideas.  I would have never known her if it had not been for this Twitter experience!  I am looking forward to learning more from others!

Math curriculum movie for kindergarten

This video by far was my biggest challenge. I made my addition and subtraction slides in power point and then transfered them to windows live movie maker...I don't think this is the most user friendly movie maker! I had a difficult time matching my voice to the powerpoint and controlling the volume. Also, when I tried to add music behind my voice, you couldn't hear me at all! I have tried for a few days to fix the sound problem, but have had no luck! I think I gave it my best effort and hope you enjoy it:) ~Nicole

TED Talks: Adora Svitak: What adults can learn from kids

How inspiring is this Child prodigy Adora Svitak?? She talks about the word 'childish' and how grownups should show willingness to learn from children. It's about 10 minutes, but so worth your time! Click here to watch the video!

StarFall Screenr

Again, I am on break that is why I have time to make these videos.  I was so nervous this was going to take a long time, but this was really easy to do.  I made a glogster from an earlier class that I am going to create a Screenr for!  I made this one for Starfall.com.  Everyday during Daily 5 my students have a choice to do listen to reading and starfall.com is what they can do.  Screenr was a great way to quickly show my kindergarteners how to use this website and hopefully there will be fewer interuptions during my guided reading time!

Community Helpers

First, I am off this week due to the continuous calendar so I am spending time making my videos a bit earlier. What might take most of you a few hours to make, may take me days to figure out:) Anyway, I am so happy that we had a chance to discover Animoto! This video was incredibly easy to use and I had fun putting it together. I even had my own dentist and mailman participate in the video:) I will definitely make more videos to go with units or of my students artwork. I also envision taking pictures throughout the year and making an end of the year video for parents to view!

Richard Byrne-“Free Technology for Teachers”

This blog has a wealth of technological information about free apps, internet resources and tutorials. As I was perusing through the blog, I came across a few new things that I am excited to try in my classroom. I loved the iPad Apps for School tab. I am always looking for educational apps to download and this is a great resource. I also use ABCya. com in my classroom and was excited to learn that this site offers a place where kids can make Word Clouds. This is a tool my students could use during our Daily 5 literacy block. As I was reading through some of Richard’s posts, I came across an app called Haiku Deck. I instantly downloaded Haiku Deck on my iPad. This app helps you make slide presentations with the pictures you choose. There is also a way to add several words and phrases to each slide. I think this is something that even my kindergarteners could (HELP) create! I also appreciated the Google tutorials. For someone like me who has a lot to learn about technology, it’s nice to know I have somewhere to go to get help.

Richard Byrne’s blog is an inspiration to keep my blog going. I think it would be fun share what I know about kindergarten and products that I have created with other teachers around the world. I always love looking at other kindergarten blogs!
